Traveling mostly by train, without any pre-arranged plans or reservations, we found this guide accurate and up-to-date. You may need to resort to the 2 pages of Romanian words and phrases in the guide. Romania was one of only four countries (with Brazil, France, and Belgium) to participate in the first three World Cups. Romania had a solid run between 1990 and 2000, advancing to Round 2 or better in three consecutive World Cups. The period was highlighted by the 1994 World Cup, where lead by the terrific Gheorghe Hagi, Romania made the quarterfinals and upset Argentina 3 2! The Romanians also made a splash in Euro 2000, drawing Germany 1 1 and beating England 3 2 to advance past both sides in group play.
