Busteni

Intro

Busteni is a small town of 15000 people on the Prahova Valley, Prahova county, Muntenia, Romania. Its name means "tree logs" in English.

The population of the town varies greatly depending on the season, many wealthy people from Romania's major cities owning holiday houses - some available for rent - in this area.

Some of Busteni's main attractions inlcude:

  • The ski runs in the area;
  • Hiking the surrounding mountains;
  • The plateau on top of Bucegi Mountains - reachable through the Busteni-Babele cable car, where you can see two strange, nature-shaped, rock formations, the "Sphinx" and "Babele" ("The Old Ladies" in Romanian);
  • Rock climbing - the best area for this is the Costila region, a 30 minutes hike away from Busteni; other climbing options can be experience in Padina.

Location

Busteni is situated on the Prahova Valley in Prahova county, Muntenia, Romania, at the foothills of the Bucegi Mountains (2500 m max. altitude), 10 km north of Sinaia, 30 km south of Brasov and about 150 km north of the capital, Bucharest.

The town is 900 m above sea level.

Getting to & around

The easiest way to reach Busteni by car is through the European road 60 (E60) that's passing through town, also known as National road 1 (DN1).

Busteni is easily reachable by train as well, being on the rail path between Bucharest and Brasov.

The nearest airport to Busteni is Bucharest's "Henri Coanda" International Airport, almost 140 km south.
